Deep Umami, Noble Asahi Character

GABA Gyokuro ASAHI

Kanoa’s GABA** Gyokuro ASAHI is a premium Gyokuro* distinguished by deep, intense umami and a naturally rich amino acid profile. It offers a full-bodied, structured taste with refined sweetness and a characteristic covered aroma, resulting in a calm, composed, and long-lasting finish.

* One of the highest quality Japanese tea varieties, which, through shade cultivation, has a high amino acid content and a rich umami flavour.
** GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid) is an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. It has been demonstrated to calm the nervous system and regulate excitability, sleep, and anxiety.

Deep Umami, Noble Asahi Character, Calm And Structured Finish

The Asahi cultivar is one of the most prestigious cultivars traditionally used for high-grade Gyokuro. It is renowned for its exceptionally high amino acid content, resulting in deep umami, pronounced richness, and a structured, full-bodied taste. Through traditional shading, Asahi develops a distinctive covered aroma (oika), marked by refined sweetness and elegant depth.

As GABA Gyokuro ASAHI, this cultivar reveals an additional dimension. The special GABA-processing enhances the natural amino profile while preserving the classic character of Asahi. The result is a Gyokuro with intense umami, a round and smooth mouthfeel, and a calm, composed expression.

Rich yet precise, GABA Gyokuro ASAHI unfolds gradually over multiple infusions, offering depth, clarity, and a long-lasting, savory finish. It reflects both the noble character of the Asahi cultivar and the balance created through careful GABA processing.

3 KEY FEATURES OF ASAHI

Exceptional Umami Depth

Asahi is one of the most prestigious Gyokuro cultivars, prized for its intense umami and naturally rich amino acid profile, delivering depth and concentration in every infusion.

Refined Covered Aroma

Grown under traditional shading, Asahi develops a distinctive oika (covered aroma) with elegant sweetness and a deep, rounded fragrance that defines classic Gyokuro.

Structured, Long-Lasting Finish

The cultivar offers a full-bodied yet clean mouthfeel with a lingering, savory finish that unfolds beautifully over multiple infusions.

  • First Infusion (50-60°C)

The tea’s sweetness and deep umami come to life, creating a smooth and luxurious first sip. Steep for 2 to 3 minutes.

  • Second Infusion (65-70°C)

The flavours deepen, introducing gentle vegetal notes with subtle savouriness. Steep for 1 minute.

  • Third Infusion (75-80°C)

The final steep reveals a richer, slightly astringent character, finishing with a lasting, satisfying aftertaste. Steep for 30 seconds.
